Washington County Scholls Ferry-Scholls Sherwood Improvements

Improve intersection safety and reduce traffic delays.

Quick Facts

  • Washington County identified the need for intersection improvements at SW Scholls Sherwood Rd and SW Scholls Ferry Road due to the existing traffic delay, long queues along the side street, and safety concerns

  • Based on the traffic analysis DKS came up with an alternative that best suited the long-term operations and safety of the intersection, which included installing a traffic signal with dedicated left-turn lanes for westbound and southbound traffic

Results

  • Minimizes traffic delays and queues by allowing more opportunities for the traffic on the side street to turn on to the main line

  • Improves safety for vehicles as they are protected by the signal to safely make left turn movements

  • Improves safety for pedestrians as they now have ADA ramps and pushbutton to safely cross the street

  • Improved lighting at the intersection brings more awareness to the intersection and improves safety

Our Work

  • Performed traffic analysis using Synchro to analyze existing and future operational conditions with and without the proposed improvements

  • Developed and designed traffic signal, lighting, signing, striping, and advance queue warning plans

  • Provided construction services support during the construction of the project
