ACT East Bay BRT Design Service

Improves safety by providing transit travel lanes and minimizes disruption to auto traffic.

Quick Facts

  • Provided traffic signal engineering, transit signal priority, ITS, pedestrian lighting, and on-street parking relocation for a new BRT project along State Route 185/International Boulevard

  • A 9.5 mile multimodal route that will modify International Boulevard and Broadway to accommodate exclusive BRT lanes, continuous bicycle lanes, and install pedestrian traffic signals for crosswalks

Results

  • BRT service operates every five minutes during peak periods and serve 34 stations along the corridor

  • Creates exclusive bus lanes for approximately 82% of the corridor and incorporates raised platforms for the 34 BRT stations

  • Enhances pedestrian crossings while maintaining safe and efficient travel lanes for transit operations and other traffic

Our Work

  • Prepared engineering plans, an engineer’s estimate and contract documents for a total of 122 traffic signals, including 71 modifications, 35 new intersection signals, 15 pedestrian or partial intersection signals and one HAWK (High-Intensity Activated crosswalk beacon)

  • Prepared the technology review, concept of operations, and system requirements to define a new advanced TSP system integrated with the signals operated by Caltrans, City of Oakland and City of San Leandro

  • Worked with multiple stakeholders, including Caltrans, AC Transit, and the cities of Oakland and San Leandro to build consensus
