Traffic Operations
DKS staff members analyze traffic operations on streets, highways and freeways using a variety of software tools. Our engineers develop measures that improve circulation, increase safety and conserve fuel. Our studies incorporate and coordinate the varied needs of all modes of transportation including autos, trucks, bicycles, buses, pedestrians and trains. We plan high occupancy vehicle systems, examine light rail and bus transit operations, analyze intersections and streets, implement coordinated traffic signal timings and recommend techniques to improve roadway capacity.
Traffic Facility Analysis and Design
Our engineers analyze and design a wide variety of traffic facilities including traffic signal and traffic control systems, interchanges, roadways and freeway management systems. We employ traditional capacity analysis techniques as well as state-of-the-art traffic simulation tools. In addition to completing initial analyses and feasibility studies, DKS engineers prepare plans, specifications and cost estimates, and manage construction for traffic facilities.
Traffic Calming
DKS works with local agencies and neighborhood groups to analyze and design neighborhood traffic management plans and traffic calming devices to protect localities from auto traffic while creating more pleasant and safer environments for walking and bicycling. Treatments such as roundabouts, stop signs, speed bumps, diverters and chokers are utilized to improve both urban and suburban neighborhoods.
