Highway and Roadway Design
DKS Associates designs streets, highways, freeways, freeway interchanges and road improvements. Many of our technical staff members are registered civil engineers in multiple states. DKS engineers apply prevailing design standards and construction techniques to conceptual designs, preliminary engineering, plans, specifications and estimates. DKS produces geometric, drainage, pavement, and signing and striping designs. We perform right-of-way engineering, utilities relocation, street lighting design and construction traffic control design.
Site Development
Our site development projects include large surface parking, train station design, transit facility design and intermodal facilities. DKS prepares layout plans, grading plans, storm drainage plans, utility layouts, parking designs, and site access and circulation plans. In doing so, we frequently interface with architects and landscape architects.
Construction Management and Administration
DKS provides expert management services for the construction of freeways and streets, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), commuter rail, light rail systems, and the transportation components of residential and commercial developments. Our professional engineers monitor grading and paving, major transit projects, striping and signing, as well as the installation of ITS equipment, traffic signals, street lights and underground utilities.
Computer Aided Drafting
Our CAD designers and CAD systems experts utilize computer-aided drafting tools to develop engineering plans for transportation-related projects. Our tools and equipment include the most recent versions of AutoCAD including desktop civil engineering, MicroStation and GIS software, as well as state-of-the-art hardware such as scanning devices and high speed color laser plotters.
Bicycle Facilities/Pedestrian-Friendly Design
DKS prepares conceptual and final designs for on-street bicycle lanes and paths in urban and rural areas. Our work includes recreational facilities and commuter bike lanes. We also prepare traffic calming designs in urban and residential neighborhoods, scaled to serve the local communities.
Quality Control
Each DKS project is filtered through a vigorous quality control process that includes review of all elements of the construction plan package. The crosschecking of supporting documentation is performed by a trained quality review officer. Our goal is to deliver technical documents that provide consistent quality and designs that meet all applicable requirements.
